Venom is a fictional character in the Marvel universe. He is one of Spider-Man's most vicious and dangerous foes, but later becomes one of his greatest allies. Venom was born after an alien symbiote from another planet was rejected by Spider-Man, latching onto Eddie Brock, who expressed a certain hatred for the wall-crawler. Venom first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #299 and was created by David Michelinie, Todd McFarlane, and Mike Zeck.

Spider-Man 3

In Spider-Man 3, Venom is one of the 3 (later 2) antagonists Spider-Man has to face in the movie.

Symbiote

While Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson were in Central Park, a meteorite crashes nearby, without the two noticing. The rock cracks open to reveal the symbiote inside. It attaches itself to Peter's motor scooter as it drives away. That night, the symbiote attaches to Peter's Spider-Man costume while he is wearing it, and Peter finds himself hanging upside-down next to a building. The symbiote makes Peter become more arrogant, selfish and violent but despite that, continues to wear it. While under the costume's influence, Peter gets into a violent fight with the Sandman in the subway, another fight with Harry Osborn, exposes Eddie Brock's pictures of Spider-Man as a criminal to be fake, and fighting with a club's bouncers, hurting Mary Jane in the process. After hurting Mary Jane, Peter attempts to get rid of the costume by taking it off in a bell tower. Peter fails, but hitting the bell causes the symbiote to become temporarily weaker, and Peter finally succeeds at taking off the symbiote. It falls down to the floor and lands on Eddie Brock.

Eddie Brock

Eddie Brock is introduced as a rival to Peter to have a staff spot in The Daily Bugle, instead of just being freelance photographers. While Peter was under the influence of the symbiote, he reveals that a picture Eddie took portraying Spider-Man as a criminal was fake. Angered, Eddie prays at the church, wanting Peter dead. The rejected Symbiote then lands on Eddie, taking over him.

Venom

Venom is the combination of Eddie and the symbiote. Driven by wanting to make Peter suffer, Venom enlists the help of Sandman and kidnaps Mary Jane when she enters a taxi. Venom suspends Mary Jane and the taxi at the top of a construction site. Venom gets into a fight with Spider-Man while Harry fought against Sandman. During the battle, Spider-man is about to get impaled by Venom, but Harry sacrifices himself. Spider-Man remembers the symbiote's weakness and he separates Eddie from the symbiote. He uses a pumpkin bomb to destroy the symbiote, just as Eddie attempted to rejoin with it, and the pumpkin bomb kills them both.

Future

Avi Arad, founder of Marvel Studios, stated that a future film about Venom was in the works, but Sony wants to replace Topher Grace.
